As educators it is our responsibility to cultivate a love for reading. However, some of our instructional practices could inadvertently turn growing readers into non-readers.

Do our instructional practices build a love of reading or hurt it? Do we give students opportunities to explore genres and topics that peek their interest? How can we nurture beginning readers if we do not allow them to have a choice in what they read?
